The mission of the Legacy Arts Project is to educate the public about the rich heritage of the African Diaspora through song, dance, drumming, visual arts, lectures and storytelling.  We are accomplishing this mission by tapping the rich resources of folk-lore, with field trips, classes conducted by master artists; and through the research of historians.

The Mattress Factory is a research and development laboratory for artists. As a museum of contemporary art, it commissions new site-specific works, presents them to a wide audience and maintains selected individual installations in a growing - and distinctive - permanent collection. The Mattress Factory's responsive, artist-oriented administration encourages spontaneity, inventiveness, and on-site decision-making by the artist.

The Pillow Project is a dance company seeking to become the vanguard on Pittsburgh's East End for compelling artistic collaborations and experimentations by intriguing local artists and new audiences with our casual dance/art happenings and innovative, full-length performance installations. We utilize vivid, multimedia imagery and visually-percussive choreography to physicalize thought-provoking concepts and engage in abstract conversations with our audiences.

The Objectives of the Department of Theatre Arts is to provide the widest spectrum of educational and training opportunities to the theatre artists and scholars of the future; to give as many students as possible a direct experience of the theatre as the occasion for self-development and artistic expression; to contribute to the cultural life of the University and the community by presenting "classic" drama along with contemporary plays and musicals, as well as various ethnic and intercultural productions; to provide outreach, touring, and teaching training programs around Shakespeare and other classics.

USA Dance is a nonprofit organization open to the public for participation in Dancesport competition; recreational ballroom dance; and other social dance activities. The USA Dance Pittsburgh Chapter mission is to promote ballroom and latin dance in the Greater Pittsburgh area.  Monthly dances are held at the Chatham University and CMU campuses.

WIFM Pittsburgh is one of 40 chapters worldwide and is a member of Women In Film and Television International.  WIFM is dedicated to improving the status and portrayal of women in film, video and other screen based media. With an emphasis on education, we serve our members and the community by providing access to opportunities in the industry and working with other non-profits dedicated to helping women and children.

The Opal Awards celebrate the achievements of local women in television and film.  Our television award is named the Patti Burns Award for achievement in television and will be given to a local woman who has achieved excellence in their field.
